Daily Prayer – October 15, 2014 by tommymcdearis God, yesterday was a somewhat annoying day. It fascinates me at how entitled some people and some groups seem to feel. It is as though failing to dance to their drumbeat is to fail to support You! Likewise, I find myself frustrated with those who orchestrate disharmony for personal gain … in the sweet name of Jesus, of course. However, having expressed my annoyance, let me also beckon Your blessings on the important issues of life. Storms are raking our nation. Typhoons are raking the Far East. Ebola is attacking Africa in appalling numbers, and an American nurse suffers from the illness because of her willingness to treat a terminally ill patient with the same disease. Terrorists are brutalizing innocent people in the Middle East and the response of the world is lame at best. Christians and Jews are again being martyred in the lands of our forefathers, and many Muslims who oppose these vile extremists are suffering the same fate. People in our church and in houses of worship all over the nation deal with grief, heartache, despair, worry, depression, and anxiety. Those same houses of worship are attended less and less. Remind us, Father, that our annoyances are rarely the sum of the big equation. As the people of God who are called to serve, we usually have bigger fish to fry than the ones that jump the highest from the water. Likewise, remind us that there is always good news to celebrate if we will look for it. Far more is usually right than wrong, and one thing that is always right is that You keep loving us despite our best efforts to keep You from it. Thank You, Lord. Fill us with grace and mercy, and help us to look beyond the trees to see the forest as we live to make You happy. In Your Name we pray. Amen. “God, I want to do what you want. Your teachings are in my heart.” Psalm 40:8
