Daily devotion for August 11 from Search My Heart O God by Kay Arthur: Are you letting down your guard? Looking at things you shouldn’t be looking at – on television, the Internet, or maybe from the video store? Buying sleazy magazines at the newsstand and then trashing them before you get home? Many people justify such behavior by saying they’re just curious. Be warned, my friend. It’s a deadly, addictive curiosity that will destroy you. It awakens illegitimate desires. Introduces you to thoughts you’ve never entertained before. And while such material may be bringing you temporal pleasure right now, it will take you captive until you become its miserable slave, shackled by invisible chains that leave your soul raw and bleeding. Listen to God’s Word: “Beloved, I urge you….to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11). Don’t get pulled into Satan’s trap! Prayer: Lord, thank You for the warnings offered in Your Word. I want to walk in obedience to Your instruction to examine everything carefully, hold fast to that which is good, and abstain from every form of evil. Open my eyes to anything that could lead me away from You. Amen.
