Daily devotion for August 19 from Search My Heart O God by Kay Arthur: Has anyone ever challenged the genuineness of your Christianity because your lifestyle isn’t godly? How did you react? You ought to thank that person for loving God and you enough to risk your relationship. They’re concerned for your soul because they know that real Christians don’t live in habitual sin. True Christians walk in obedience to God’s commandments. That’s not to say they don’t disobey from time to time (1 John 2:1-2), but it’s not the habit of their lives. To not obey His commandments is to be lawless, and “sin is lawlessness” (1 John 3:4). “You know that He appeared in order to take away sins…No one who abides in Him sins (habitually); no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him….The one who practices sin is of the devil….The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:5-6, 8-9). How does your life stack up against that? Prayer: Lord, speak to my heart right now as I wait in silence. Reveal to me the truth about my condition. Show me whether my life is truly surrendered to You, whether I really have the anointing of the Holy Spirit abiding in me. Amen.
