Daily she pestered me, insisting I must come listen to the ‘GREAT’ man of God, who was being used MIGHTILY by God, to do AMAZING things. After days of enduring this torture, I eventually asked, “What exactly does this man do or has he done that makes him a Great Man?” She couldn’t believe her ears, her eyes widened in disbelief. How could I ever question the credentials of this heavily anointed man of God? Finally, she replied. “I don’t get you, what do you mean?” “This man you speak of, has he ever removed the heart of a living man and the man did not die, and then put in another heart and the man rose up again and continued living?" No! “Has he ever removed the liver or kidney of someone and replaced it with a new one and the person did not die?” No! “Has he ever taken out a 6 months old baby from the mother’s womb and kept him alive till the baby became whole?” No! “Has he found the cure to a pandemic?” No. “Has he conducted conception outside a woman’s body?” No! “Has he ever gone past our atmosphere, either by himself or with the aid of his own invention and returned?” No! “Has he ever traveled from place to place at the speed of sound?” No! “Has he discovered the cure for ANY disease known to man, a cure that we can all use and that actually works?” No! “So what exactly has he done that ranks among the notable achievements of men, and for which he is deserving of recognition, not to talk of adulation?” “But he has opened the eyes of a some blind men before.” She protested. “You see that house beyond the corner? An ophthalmologist lives there. He performs surgery on at least 4 blind cases every week and they go back with their sight. I have never heard anyone refer to him as great before. But what your man has done once or twice before, this man does all the time. How come you do not so follow him?” The truth I know is that around us live true great men. Men who make our lives better in thousands of ways. Yes, we do not worship them, we do not flock to them, we do not gift them even a bicycle, not to talk of Jeeps or Jets. But we choose worship businessmen who prey on our psychology, who do nothing tangible but convince via acting and oratory that they possess certain immense powers that are neither visible nor enduring, not to mention replicable. We worship these actors and orators, neglecting men of knowledge and industry, and we wonder why our land is backward?" -#Rolu Adebola
