They also threw country-made bombs at the victims’ house and the hospital entrance. Two unexploded bombs were seized by the police. Sources said four persons surrendered before the police later in the afternoon. The deceased duo was identified as Ambulance Kumar (34) and his younger brother Rajesh (32), residents of Kalungamedu area at Annamalai Nagar. The brothers were running an ambulance and auto business. According to the police, a group of masked men arrived at Kumar’s house around 2.30 am on motorbikes and forced their way in. They hurled bombs and attacked Kumar’s relatives and friends who had come for his sister’s wedding a few days ago. The gang then attacked and killed Kumar and Rajesh. They beheaded the duo and took their severed heads to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital and dumped them at the entrance. They also hurled bombs at shops located in front of the hospital before fleeing. A car and shop were damaged. On information, Chidambaram DSP R Rajaram and two police inspectors rushed to the spot. They sent the bodies and the severed heads to the Chidambaram Government Hospital. The police also seized two unexploded bombs. Annamalai Nagar police registered a case. The double murder is believed to be the fallout of Kumar’s enmity with Hari, brother of deceased rowdy Chandran. Kumar was also reportedly the intended victim of a bomb, which accidentally exploded while being assembled inside a house at Mariyappa Nagar in Annamalai Nagar on May 3. The Pioneer STUDENTS LOCK K’PUT ASHRAM SCHOOL, LEAVE FOR HOMES dailypioneer/state-editions/bhubaneswar/students-lock-kput-ashram-school-leave-for-homes.html Ashram schools run by the ST & SC Development Department have been in news recently for all the wrong reasons. And this time, it is an Ashram school in Koraput district where nearly 400 students, including boarders, have left for their homes after locking the school office and gate to register their protest against alleged ‘misdeeds’ of the headmaster. The students of the school at Champi under Laxmipur block left for their homes on Monday demanding immediate transfer of headmaster Bishnu Charan Jethy. They ransacked the garden and fences of the school, pelted stones at the residence of the headmaster before locking the gate and office. They also left behind a handwritten letter at the school gate saying the headmaster was responsible for the bad quality food served to them and accusing him of physically assaulting them. The students had demanded the headmaster’s transfer a week ago, following which officials of the School and Mass Education Department had visited the school for a spot inquiry. But strangely, the department transferred two other teachers and left the headmaster untouched.“We had even told the local MLA about the problems in the school, and he had promised to get the headmaster transferred. We will not return till the headmaster is transferred and the transfer orders of the two teachers are cancelled,” the students told reporters. While the headmaster was not available for his comments, a district official said an inquiry would be conducted into the issue. District Welfare Officer Jagannath Soren said he has intimated the matter to the higher-ups. As an immediate measure, the headmaster has been sent to the head office on deputation, he added. The Indian Express 7 more from MP Dalit duo’s family seek conversion indianexpress/article/india/india-others/7-more-from-mp-dalit-duos-family-seek-conversion/ The conversion of two Dalit youths from Shivpuri snowballed into a law and order issue on Tuesday as seven more members of their family sought to convert to Islam while Hindu organisations tried to convince them to not change their faith. Tularam and Maniram, the two youths who were booked under the anti-conversion law last week, and seven family members turned up at the collectorate in Shivpuri with affidavits saying they want to convert to Islam of their own volition and that they had not been offered money or anything else. Collector Rajeev Dubey told The Indian Express that the nine persons were sent back and told to follow proper procedure for conversion. He said the law mandates application from those presiding over the conversion ceremony, and not the potential convert. The nine members told district authorities that they had already started practising Islam by offering namaaz. While an additional district magistrate sent the nine persons back, the police detained them. SDOP (Shivpuri) S K Tomar said nobody was arrested and that police detained them only because their presence was turning into a law and order issue. He said arrests, if any, would be done by the Khaniyadhana Police Station. The in-charge of Khaniyadhana station Y S Jadaun, too, said nobody had been arrested. He said though there was no tension in the village, some family members were apprehensive about the conversion. The parents of the wife of Rajesh, Tularam’s cousin, took her home because they are against their daughter’s conversion to Islam, Jadaun added. Earlier, the district administration had not been able to trace Maniram Jatav, a resident of Chhirwaha, and his brother-in-law Tularam, a resident of Bukarra on Monday and had posted police in both villages as a precautionary measure.
