Dam on Brahmaputra: Delhi warns Beijing New Delhi, July 9: Taking a note of China’s decision to construct three hydropower projects on the Brahmaputra River, India has conveyed its concern to the neighbouring country. India has urged China to ensure that the interests of downstream States should not be harmed by any activities in the upstream areas. “During the visit of Vice President to China from June 26–30, 2014, the two governments signed the Implementation Plan on Provision of Hydrological Information of Brahmaputra River in Flood Season by China to India,” said Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh in the Parliament on Wednesday. He said the ‘Outline of the 12th Five Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China’ indicates that three hydropower projects on the mainstream of the Brahmaputra River in Tibet Autonomous Region have been approved for implementation by the Chinese authorities. “A hydropower project at Zangmu is already under construction. Government is carefully monitoring all developments on the Brahmaputra River. As a lower riparian State with considerable established user rights to the water of the river, India has conveyed its views and concerns to the Chinese authorities,” Singh said.
