Dan Schatz expressed the important information and perspectives so cogently in this commentary today that I want to share it. I could not have said it as well, but these are points that are very important for us and the rest of the world to hear. [[I dont pretend to be an expert, but it is worth saying that what happened in Pakistan today is antithetical to every teaching of Islam I have ever heard. Islam teaches, as one of its core values, the protection and care of those who are most vulnerable in society. Children especially are to be protected and treated well. I dont know what motivated the Pakistani Taliban to attack a school and murder innocent schoolchildren at random, but it wasnt Islam - it wasnt even jihad, in either the peaceful or the militaristic sense. It was an act so abhorrent that even other Islamic extremists have condemned it. So as we react with appropriate horror, please let us remember that these murderers do not represent Islam and do not live the teachings of the Quran or the prophet Mohammed. And please let us remember that Muslim immigrants to this country are here very often because they wanted to get away from the kinds of people who committed these acts. To Muslims everywhere - we grieve with you the loss of your children.]]
