Dance Fiji Dance launched July 15, 2013 | Filed under: Fiji News | Posted by: newsroom By TALEBULA KATE Youths from different racial and social backgrounds will be given chance to participate in a dance competition. The Dance Fiji Dance competition, which was launched at the Malt House, Vatuwaqa on Friday, was created to inspire local dancers to achieve their dream as dancers. Competition co-ordinator Ravin Chand said the inter-district dancing competition will be held on August 3 from 3pm to 7pm at the FMF dome. “This is a Nasinu-based group which was initiated in 1990 as Vishal Art Promotions; we organise dance competitions, live bands and festivals,” Mr Chand said. He said most of the shows were held at theatres and halls. “Our history shows that we have got talented people at large but they have not been given the opportunity to bring their talents out (public notice) to gain fame,” he said. “We, by doing this, strive to give a platform for all those who want to develop their potentials and excel in the entertainment arena in Fiji; song and dance entertainment service links corporations, event-organisers and venues with first class performers, production services and amusements.” The show will be an annual function show and in October the DFD competition will start again where there will be elimination rounds. This is the birth of a big-time dancing competition. He said they were looking for island dances, hip hop, Bollywood and contemporary dancers in the event. The first prize for this competition is $3000 cash. “We have extensive industry knowledge, resources and practical experience to ensure that the ideal entertainment is secured for our special event,” Mr Chand said. “We will be selling tickets for the dance competition for which we have done all the legal requirements.”
