Daniel Sturridge - “I’m just humbled by everything that’s going on at the moment. It’s a great time in my life. “The football pitch is the place where I express myself. It’s the one place I feel at home and yet that was something I was deprived of at Chelsea. I didn’t get that opportunity to play and it hurt me badly. “There were times when I was very upset at home. I had fallen out of love with the game. In every job you want to be able to do what you love and when someone takes that away from you, it’s the hardest thing to take. It was a very difficult time and I’m thankful to God and to my family for keeping me happy off the field. “I was scared I was going to be lost to the game. So I was so happy that I could go to Bolton on loan and play there and realise ’I can do this’. “It’s been a whirlwind 15 months at Liverpool, amazing, I’ve enjoyed every moment. I feel blessed, pushing myself to the limits. Yet I feel that there’s so much more to come.” Sturridge on people believing hes arrogant - “There was a lot of crime where I grew up, but it seemed normal at the time. When people say I’m straight-faced or arrogant or have an aloof aura about me, it’s because you had to have a certain mask there growing up. You can’t show your emotions, or look at people in a certain way because you never know how they’re going to react. “I’m very outgoing, but I’d say I was misunderstood. Everyone has a different perception about my image when they meet me. My team-mates and family know. I’m a normal person, no different to anyone else in the street.” Hes scoring goals and making headlines with his performances on the pitch, but Sturridge says that he hasnt changed his game - “I think I’ve always played the way I am now. Ask the players at Chelsea. It’s just that I never got the chance because Didier and Nico were unbelievable and then they signed Torres. Chelsea never believed in me as a centre forward.” Sturridge on the title race - “I don’t think winning at the weekend is going to change anything in regards to the title race, with Chelsea and Manchester City, if they win their games in hand, theyre the favourites for me.” On Liverpools revival - “I don’t think we really realise what we are achieving as a team, we’re just going out, playing with smiles on our faces. That’s the most important thing I think.” Sturridge on facing Suarez at the World Cup - “Luis is very demanding but then so am I. It’ll be strange facing him in the Uruguay game. One of us could be going out very unhappy but maybe we’ll both go through and Italy will go out! “I’m going to have a lot of banter with him when the season’s finished. I’ll probably steal all his boots and shin pads and do something crazy.”
