Danville (IL) – Two of Danville’s Finest attended the funeral of slain NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu at his funeral Sunday, December 4, 2015. Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason stated, “Two of our Danville Police Officers attended the recent funeral of Officer Liu, a New York City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. Our officers, Officer Patrick Carley and Officer Douglas Miller, were given free airfare by Jet Blue and were extended an opportunity to attend the funeral. They were able to share accommodations with other officers at no charge to the City of Danville and were able to represent our community in paying our respects to the victim officer and his family. More importantly they were granted the opportunity to show our support of the people of New York in their time of grief.” Criminal Investigations Commander Jane McFadden said, “The whole trip was an opportunity of a lifetime for our two officers who were able to represent our department and visit the City of New York. They were able to participate in the funeral procession and show our support of our fellow police officers along with thousands of other officers from around the country and around the world. They were able to also visit ground zero and the memorial to the victims of 911.” Commander McFadden stated that she was able to keep in touch with the officers during their stay in New York and they sent pictures back to her via text message so she could see the events as well. Commander McFadden stated that the officers will return to work tomorrow and that they will always remember this opportunity to pay respect and condolences to the two NYPD Officers who lost their lives last month in the line of duty.
