Dare 2B Daring – July 15, 2013 A daily devotional published by Risk Takers for Christ, Inc. (Permission granted to reprint with proper attribution.) I recently discovered a powerful quote, but am not sure of the identity of the author. It reads: “Life is short, so remember to focus on what matters and let go of what doesn’t.” This reminds me of a similar quote: “Let go and let God”. Both quotes are very true, but at times prove to be easier said than done. James 3:14 states: “Why, you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Notice that James poses an important and thought provoking question, “What is your life?” How should we answer that question? James immediately responds by explaining that we are just a mist (vapor) and are only here for a brief time before departing this life. Since this is true, how are we choosing to live our lives – for Him or for ourselves? What kind of legacy will we leave behind when our work on earth is finished? Listen to Chuck Swindoll’s comments on this verse: “Life ‘A mist’, answers James. Although we give the appearance of security, our lives are marked by uncertainty, adversity, brevity. All the more reason to gain perspective on how to live it. Walking with God gives us perspective. It doesn’t guarantee we will live longer, but it does help us live better and deeper and broader. Because you know nothing about the day, week, month or year before you, commit yourself anew to Him who knows the times and seasons." “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8 Remember – “This one life will soon be past, and only what’s done for Christ will last!” Psalm 78:39 – “He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.” - Rev.
