Darleen and I attended the Naval Surface Force Change of Command Ceremony yesterday on the flight deck of USS CORONADO (LCS 4). Joining numerous distinguished guests we honored the service and valuable contributions of two great Navy families, as well as an important command that serves as the home of our Navy’s surface force. Under the guidance of VADM Copeman the Surface Force has flourished, and the fruits of his labor will serve the Navy’s warfighters for years to come. Judy Copeman has matched Tom in her dedicated contributions as a CO/XO spouse mentor and through community engagement. We wish the Copeman family Fair Winds after 32 years and thank them for their service to our Navy and Nation. Welcome aboard to the Navy’s newest VADM, Tom Rowden, and his wife Susie and their family. As Tom assumes command, I look forward to seeing his commitment to excellence continue and keeping the surface community on the right track!
