Darlyne made this comment on the excerpt from Shadow Patriots: I particularly appreciated the thought of the parrot scrabbling across the table. We only had parakeets, but the walk is similar! I enjoy collecting books of humor from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Not all of the references in them are familiar to us now and many seem sophomoric, but a lot of the anecdotes and jokes in Shadow Patriots and Marys Land came from these three books. The third one is particularly well-thumbed. Ive mentioned it before.
