Database Gem: SciFinder Scholar SciFinder Scholar is an electronic resource that is fully on the web. Providing Chemical Abstract Services databases, this is one of the most important scientific researching tools available to scientists and scholars. Created by the CAS, an organization within The American Chemical Society, SciFinder Scholar provides access to more than 16 million single- and multi-step reactions, one billion plus predicted property values as well as more than 2 million experimental properties. It also gives users access to The CAS REGISTRYSM database, all patent records meeting CAS selection criteria, and sequences combined from CAS and GenBank databases, which are indexed as well as linked to scientific journal and patent literature. Researchers and students have full online access to SciFinder through the UTPA Library’s website. All they need to do in order to use this important tool is follow the directions and link in the Articles and Databases page to set up their own account. After that they will be able to use SciFinder Scholar anywhere there is an internet connection
