Date: 12th October, 2014 Bulletin No. 9 SCR on High Alert and Firms up Action Plan to Handle the Situation in the aftermath of Cyclone ‘Hudhud’; More than 100 Trains Cancelled/Diverted in the Interest of Safety; Train Services on SCR towards Visakhapatnam to be affected till Tomorrow South Central Railway continues to be on high alert and has undertaken concerted steps to handle the situation arising out of the ‘Hudhud’ Cyclonic Storm which hit the East Coast near Visakhapatnam today i.e, 12th October, 2014. The core strategy that is being implemented by SCR is sanitizing the Section from Rajahmundry to Visakhapatnam on Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam rail route in the interest of Safety. No Train has been operated on this section from the early hours of 12th October, 2014 to avoid any scope for any untoward incident. All Trains bound to Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar have been cancelled till tomorrow afternoon (i.e., 13th October, 2014) and Trains bound to Howrah have been diverted via., Vijayawada, Kazipet, Balharshah and Nagpur. As part of this strategy, 62 Trains were Cancelled, 05 Trains Partially Cancelled and 51 Trains Diverted. In addition, focused measures are under implementation to ensure safety and minimize the inconvenience to passengers due to dislocation of train services on Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam Section. In this connection, Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager, SCR has instructed the officials to closely monitor the field situation in the aftermath of Cyclone and accord top most priority for the safety of Passengers and Railway assets. He, along with Shri S.K.Agarwal, Additional General Manager, SCR and Shri J.N.Jha, Chief Operations Manager, SCR has reviewed the current situation from the Emergency Control Room set up at Rail Nilayam, the Head Quarters of SCR and issued necessary instructions to smoothly handle the situation. The special Cyclone emergency cells set up at Rail Nilayam and at Vijayawada Divisional Head Quarters are being manned 24 X 7 by senior officials from various departments to continuously asses the situation and immediately initiate requisite action. 22 Railway stations on SCR have been identified as controlling stations to tackle the emergent situation arising out of the cyclone as well as for the purpose of controlling of trains if necessary. These stations are- Anakapalli, Tuni, Samalkot, Kakinada Port, Rajahmundry, Nidadavolu, Nuzvid, Bhimavaram, Machilipatnam, Narsapur, Gudivada, Eluru and Vijayawada on Vijayawada Division; Khammam, Dornakal Junction, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Kazipet, Ramgundam, Bellampalli and Sirpurkagaznagar on Secunderabad Division and Guntur station on Guntur Division. Senior officials have been positioned on special duty at all these stations to take care of the requirements of the Passengers. Special patrolling of Railway track has been pressed into service on Vijayawada Division, covering the affected section between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Watchmen have been posted to monitor the situation at identified vulnerable locations including bridges, high banks etc., in the interest of safety of track and other installations. Railway officials are in regular liaison with State Government officials, especially the Irrigation officials to take stock of the condition of tanks/water bodies nearby railway track. Engineering Material Trains loaded with Sand bags, Boulders, Quarry dust, Cribs and Girders are kept at Gullipadu, Tuni and Rajahmundry stations for immediate restoration activities in case of need. Chief Engineers from Secunderabad, SCR, HQ have been camping at Tuni to keep a watch on the situation continuously and take appropriate steps as required. Additional Enquiry Counters and Refund Counters have been opened at all important Stations to cater to the needs of the Passengers. Required catering arrangements have been made at Stations in the affected Sections to ensure supply of drinking water, food & beverages to Passengers on travel, on account of cancellation / partial cancellation / diversion of trains. Medical facilities and Security arrangements have also been strengthened at major stations to meet any emergency situation. Help Line Numbers have been activated at 22 Railway Stations mainly on Vijayawada and Secunderabad Divisions, besides Guntur and Tirupati Stations to disseminate information on the present status of train services to passengers.
