Date: September 8, 2014 Contact: Deputy Fire Chief: John Binaski 324-2200 PIO: Chad Fitzgerald 593-3289 Clovis Fire Responds to Apartment Fire Clovis Fire Department responded to a single-story four-unit apartment fire at 1200 Scotts Avenue Sunday afternoon. Initially reported at 3:02 pm, Clovis units arrived within five minutes reporting smoke and flames coming from two apartments. Arriving crews quickly performed a search of the primary apartment and adjacent units to ensure no occupants were inside. Additional crews found that the fire had the potential to spread to a total of four units through a shared attic space. The fire was confined to the first two apartment units. Six fire units and 19 personnel, including resources from Fresno Fire, Clovis Police Department, and the American Red Cross Central Valley responded to the incident. Unfortunately, several occupants have been displaced with the American Red Cross Central Valley coordinated housing, ensuring displaced residents had a place to recover and stay. Preliminary estimates place damages to the four units is estimated at $250,000, including personal belongings. How the fire started is undetermined and members of the Clovis Fire Department Investigations Team will be working through the morning to assess the cause and origin of the blaze.
