Date : Sunday, Octobre 12th Location : park lake in Belgium near Ghent. Mission : coaching 2 anglers which I got to know from Facebook. Hi everyone, Here is a little story of my latest session. I got an invitation to meet a few friends. They wanted to see me fishing, learn a few tricks and they were wondering how I would approach their local venue. To be honest I never fished this venue, never heard of this wonderful place. It looks nice and peacefull with an island on one side of the lake. According to these guys its hard fishing over there. Someday you can catch a big net of bream and the other day you have to wait for several hours untill they come to your peg and perhaps than you can catch a few. Any how I accepted the challenge, as long as I can help somebody than it is okay with me. I actually love my fishing so much I want to share it with everyone else. Thats actually the reason why I started with my Facebook page (Kristof Verbeeck Angler). So I set up the tackle. I prepared 3 Matrix Carpmaster 11ft feeder rods, two on the method feeder and one has got an inline cage feeder on the end. I always use a 4in hooklength on the method and after the last session I will use an 8in hooklength on the inline cage feeder. Two different setups, two completely different presentations, but they both work extremely well. My chosen peg has got a water pump at about 50 yards casting distance. I expected a lot from that area so I clipped up all 3 rods to that range and I decided to prebait the spot. On the bait front I have a bait tub loaded with Bait-Tech Krill & Tuna Method Mix and another tub was filled with some soaked 4mm Carp & Coarse pellets. I mixed just a little together but I kept them separate for the majority of the session. In that way I could mix and change whenever I want. As hookbaits I got the options of several 6 and 8mm hard Bait-Tech pellets and some 10mm bright boilies. I always carry these candies with me and they never let me down. After a few hours with still no fish in my net I decided to come short. I created a new spot 21 meters from the bank. My next door neighbour was catching bream a bit closer than my water pump spot. For the next four hours I was able to catch 13 nice bream. All those bream fell for a nice bright orange or pink Hi-Viz Fluro 10mm boilie while feeding 4mm pellets. A few tips for my 2 Facebook friends and perhaps for some other anglers as well : Keep it simple. Feeder fishing is actually not that difficult. But you must keep yourself to a few basic rules. Use the line clip and cast to the same spot every time. Cast regularly to build up your swim. The more bait youre putting in, the more fish will visit your swim eventually. Use the same hooklength materials : on most venues where you can expect big bream, tench and carp 0.20 mono and a size 14 hook will do just fine. Four inches for the method feeder, about 8-11 inches for a cage feeder setup. Try to vary your fishing, when you notice the bites are slowing down try another presentation, try another bait. Thats what active feeder fishing is all about. When youre working hard during your session, you will get rewarded in the end. I must admit such a complete Matrix setup looks awesome but that doesnt garantuee you to catch lots of fish. It all happens under water, how your presentation looks like, what kind of bait youre using. Fish with total confidence in what youre doing. I have total faith in Matrix and Bait-Tech products. Yours might be completely different, but thats fine. Feeder fishing is fun, is an efficient way of fishing. But most of the anglers I get to observe dont fish how it should be. I just hope that they keep on trying cause it would be sad if they will ignore their rods eventually. Think about these tips for a while and you have any questions dont hesitate to get in touch. If you live close by, there is even a possibility to fish together one day and I will show how it all works in practise. Have fun everyone and till next time !
