Date for your diary! The Hare & Moon Gallery will be hosting its first exhibition Art in Miniature from Saturday 22nd November. The exhibition will feature new work by Georgia Dodson and limited edition wood engravings by Andy English. Georgias work is strongly influenced by a tradition of seventeenth century northern European forest floor paintings. For this collection Georgia has been working plein air in oil on copper sheets measuring only 10cm square. She seeks to re-engage the viewer with the detail and the complexity of life and decay on the forest floor. Andy English, a wood engraver from Little Downham near Ely, is renowned for his meticulous prints, which he describes as unashamedly small scale, rural and autobiographical. All of his work starts off as a detailed drawing, which is engraved into a woodblock, often using a magnifying glass to achieve the fine detail he wants. He then uses his nineteenth century Albion press to print limited editions of the finished design. As always, there will also be a selection of locally made one-off pieces of jewellery, ceramics and paper cuts to tempt you. And my new gallery phone line is now working, so if you want to contact me call 01263 768820.
