Date with NH48 (December 2012) This was the longest journey i had been on my bike,to Gokarna(500 +kms from Bangalore). I was on my way back to Bangalore and in two days my had bike had already done 21 hours on the road.It was nearly 1.30 am and i had reached Tiptur,at a crossroad i was confused then i did know that i had to go straight, but instead to make my journey last a bit longer i took a right. The road was very narrow,no lights, the sky was lit with stars. Ahead of me i had two huge lorries running,i did try to stop one of them just to confirm if the road would lead to Bangalore, but the driver mistook me for someone and he raced away. I was riding my baby real smooth, because i did not want her to loose her cool(engine getting heated up).Well now things on road were real nice,i was under a sky lit with bright stars,on a road which was narrow with no vehicles running infront or behind and the road was good enough to ride 50-60kph. Alongside the road i could see huge banyan trees, the types which we see in the horror movies. On the back of my mind i did have a thought that i might experience something supernatural, but no-one turned up. Well a beautiful lady wearing a white saree with long silk hair would have added more excitement to my journey, but didnt happen so. Littles foxes were blocking the way now and again,i had to honk them away. Till this time i was not very confident if was on the way to Bangalore,so i was hoping to meet someone on the road so as to confirm if the road was leading to a highway.Well to my luck,at 2.30 am near a village where all lights were turned out i saw a Baba standing by the road. From a distance i thought should i or should not ask,is he a human or something else? My priority of confirming whether the road lead to highway was more than the question of him not being human being. So i stopped my sweetheart to ask him as to how far the highway was,he was bit hesitant for some reason but he did tell me that the road was leading to the highway,he also added that the road was real good.Well i moved on from the village, and stopped at next village at 3.30 am near a tea stall that had just opened, and there was a crowd of villagers getting ready for their daily chores. The hot cup of tea really refreshened my soul, and here i was sorrounded by villagers discussing about me as to where i was coming from and how i was supposed to go,i did join join their discussion with my broken Kannada. The cup of tea was over and i geared up again to hit the road.Well to my dillema my mp3 was out of battery,so i was singing songs all the way,my voice had become really heavy by this time.Hit the road again,15kms to the NH48. All this while on my way from Tiptur i was fancying the thought of just stopping for while to lay down on my bike and admire the stars, but as i had not confirmed the road i thought i would not be able to enjoy the view to the optimum with something on the back of my mind. So i was desparate for the highway now as in 2hours it would be morning. Finally after all the villages i reached the highway which was under construction, widening was in process so the road was a little bumpy. Well now on the higway i did know that i was on the the way to Bangalore, but did not know the distance, and the funny part was i used to see these signs boards from a distance and think ,okay now i will come to know how far i am,as i came near the sign would say Construction ahead! go slow. This happened to me nearly five to six times, and i started laughing at myself. So now the signboards were of no worth to me so stopped by a tea stall and came to know that another 120kms i had yet to go.Well the ride was so good that even it would have been 500kms i would have been a happier man,the best part was it was only me and my bike on the road,no pilian rider.Well proceeding further on the highway i reached the toll gate, which also indicated the road ahead was completely constructed. I crossed the toll gate, and had a first look at the what whole NH48 would look like once completed,it was like i was dreaminng. The road was so clean and well surfaced one would sleep on it,so wide on could land an aeroplane with ease. The best part were the florouscent stickers all along the way which lit up when light fell on them, this road was looking like a runway durin nght time to me,i was definitely in love with this highway. There was a great feeling riding this road, the extent of greatness was so much that i am unable to put them in words.Well now that i had cofirmed the way,and the road was suerb ,i thought of getting back to what my heart was wanting for a while now. Parked my bike, put it on the middle stand, there i was laying on my bike gazing at the stars,i hadnt felt that bliss for a long time,it was indeed heavenly.Alhumdulilah! Well my heart was so much at peace that i was about to fall asleep, then i realized another 100kms and i do not wanna wake up on the highway the next morning. So i moved forward bidding farewell to the starry sky,now on the road the whole atmosphere was changing ,i could see the scattered red colours on the horizons of the sky incdicating sunrise to happen, this moment has been added to the best moments of my life, sunrise and sunsets are always beautiful.I had crossed Kunegal now and another change in atmosphere, the road was suddenly surrounded by fog & mist,as i was moving ahead on my sweat heart, the mist was kissing my helmet and dew drops were falling from my helmet,of all the heavenly feelings i experienced on my trip, this was the bestest,i was indeed falling sort of words so i had to innovate to do a little justice to the scenario. After a while on the highway i saw barricades stoping vehicles to pass by,i was confused,as i passed by i saw two passenger buses had collided due to the heavy fog,Alhumdulilah no casualties or heavy injuries to anyone. My heart was getting a little heavy now as i was very near to bangalore and the journey was to end,i was so much in love with the highway- i was in no mood of leaving. Well as i entered Bangalore i promised myself to be back on NH48 someday.NH48 was superb, awesome, mind blowing,fantastic,marvellous..not again --falling short of words again,,,
