David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister, is literally advocating for the suppression of ideas, because those ideas cause a bunch of problems. Dealing with all forms of extremism, not just violent extremism. Cameron actually summed it up better, We must defeat this ideology in all of its forms. He asserts that we should learn from history and from our mistakes, and then follows up with You wouldnt allow Nazis to recruit on our campuses, would you? No! - As if this question is so certainly answered without much philosophical debate about free speech. The basic civil right to free speech includes speech which might be distasteful specifically because subjectivity is dangerous when interpreted at the sole discretion of a governing body. To use the you wouldnt download a car defense for free speech as some sort of appeal to absurdity is horrifying in its clarity of stance and resolve of effort to suppress dangerous ideology through vague and broad interpretations of the right to free speech. In a related article, the author clarifies a policy, The Home Secretary will also introduce banning orders for extremist groups, which would make it a criminal offence to be a member of or raise funds for a group that spreads or promotes hatred. The maximum sentence could be up to 10 years in prison. Communism wasnt defeated by simply pointing out its flaws. - David Cameron This speech feels like an actual joke, and I dont get it. The four minute conclusion starting at 11:21 is particularly terrifying. Also, around 4:22, what is said has broadened my understanding of how this leader (and others) view extremism as loosely as contempt for authority or speech which might cause someone else to use as a justification for violence, which is concerning in that speech connected to crimes might be traced back to a point of origin through political mandate or through the misguided intuitive use of causation and correlation. This speech feels like its from either an SNL pre-monologue skit or the bad guys from Airforce One. https://youtube/watch?v=IuwOfQI8YA8 EDIT: clarity and added to early paragraph
