David Jason: Only Fools and Horses wont return Sir David Jason has suggested that Only Fools and Horses will not return. The Del Boy actor recently reunited with his on-screen brother Rodney, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, for a special Sport Relief sketch featuring a cameo by David Beckham. Speaking on Lorraine, he said: The thing that happened with [the Sport Relief episode], it was a script that John Sullivan was working on with his son... it was a Sullivan script. John Sullivan was a one-off. He wrote those characters and there isnt anybody else, I dont think, that could do it. Jason also spoke about how the ambition of actors has changed since he started his own career, explaining: When I started I was in Rep [theatre], and it was to me like a religion that I had to be an actor. Thats all I wanted. Fame and fortune, if it came along that would be great, but that wasnt the reason for doing it. Whereas today I think we have a slightly different aspect, because its all about fame and its all about riches and success, because magazines, papers, television to a certain extent, are always advertising the glamour and the wealth of it all and it doesnt tell us about the journey of just doing it. The 74-year-old recently admitted that it was Beckham who came up with the idea of his cameo in the special sketch. He said he had always loved Only Fools and Horses and that it would be great to do something with me and Nick, Jason recalled. So then the grapevine started to work as these things do.
