David Moyes faces a chance to win his first silverware in England - TopicsExpress

David Moyes faces a chance to win his first silverware in England barely over a month after taking charge of Manchester United. To do this he must beat Roberto Martinez’ Wigan Athletic in the Charity Shield this Sunday at the magnificent and majestic Wembley Stadium – the home of English football. Moyes is already under intense pressure from everywhere and rightly so. A pre season that has seen United win just twice in 6 matches while losing 2 in the process. This coupled with some unguided statements regarding Wayne Rooney as a “back-up” striker has not made life any easier for Moyes. The least Moyes can do for himself is to win CONVINCINGLY against Wigan. This will erase doubts about his ability to manage at top flight and give him some good breathing space to plan as he attempts to settle down in this new seemingly oversized shoes of Alex Ferguson. On the other hand, a loss would be a disaster! This will compound the woes of the 50 years old manager who is already aging fast in his looks and appearance at the helm of affairs. No thanks to intense pressure and expectations. I can confirm if I were to, a loss to Wigan and Moyes will be faced with the problems of attracting big names to United (which he cant do right now), the battle to keep Wayne Rooney (which Mourinho seems to be enjoying), disbelieve in his abilities from the players perspectives and a seemingly inevitable battle to keep his job. ITS WIN OR DROWN IN THE OCEAN FOR DAVID MOYES. Everyone will be expecting Moyes to lead United to victory but let us not forget that Wigan beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season and Manchester City beat Manchester United (at Old Trafford) last season. So lets just say mathematically this puts Wigan even in a better position to triumph over United. What could be of more concern to United and analysts is that Wigan have heavily reinforced with the buys of Chris McCann, Stephen Crainey, Thomas Rogne, Scott Carson, Marc-Antoine Fortune, Grant Holt, James Perch, Juan Carlos Garcia and Leon Barnett. But again to be fair they have also sold 2 key players in Arouna Kone and Maynor Figueroa. United on the other hand have made buys but no marquee signing. Just young players like Wilfried Zaha and Guillermo Varela who could be on loan throughout next season. The return of Fletcher could be a boast to United as well. But again United have been poor in pre season. VERY poor in my opinion despite using all their key players from RVP to Rafael, from Zaha to Evans and from Rio to Vidic. A poor pre season campaign, successive failed bids in the market, inability to attract marquee players and be sure there is an air of disbelieve amongst the players and this negative morale could just do them in. But then again, pres season matches are not a yard stick to show how the season proper will go. But one thing is for sure. United MUST win against Wigan. soccerroomtoday/news/its-win-or-drown-in-the-ocean-for-david-moyes/
