David Sirota articulates rather well the driving force behind a disingenuously framed public education policy. It’s a shame it takes us so long to catch up with what’s really going on (and it’s still not clear we will). Anyone who worked through the “reform” years of NCLB could clearly see the disaster striking full force (and earlier too—the current wave of anti-progressive reform was initiated in the 80s w/ “A Nation at Risk,” E.D. Hirsch, etc.)…so much wasted treasure and so many innocent lives sacrificed over the past few decades. The tenets of this regression have been so long and so loudly reinforced that the noise and the buzzwords now pass for conventional wisdom in most quarters. Repeat anything enough times and, well, you know the rest…
