David tells us that innumerable evils encircled him. Not only that, but his iniquities took hold of him. His sin made it impossible for him to look up to God. His heart was failing him. I don’t think this meant that he was having a heart attack– although it could have meant that. I think it meant his convictions, his hope, and his goal, to live for the LORD was weak. He cried out, in Psalm 40:13, to be delivered. He prayed that those who perplexed him would be ashamed, and those that sought his soul to destroy it would be driven backward and be put to shame (Psalm 40:14). In the middle of all that mess, he found himself! GOD WOULD BE MAGNIFIED! (vs. 16). Have you ever been in the middle of a mess? Have you ever been a “Peter” and denied the Lord Jesus? Have you ever been a “Moses” and wanted to quit the work God called you to? Have you ever been a “Martha” and got caught up in mundane daily tasks? If so, you can understand David’s condition and the shame that followed. Jesus Christ cannot be magnified in a life that is not living for the Lord. He cannot be magnified when the believer speaks evil words, or accomplishes evil actions. Yet, so many Christians want to do both. They sin and expect a blessing. They curse using God’s Name in vain and expect His smile. David finally made a statement: “THE LORD BE MAGNIFIED!” He wanted a huge magnifying glass placed over his life, so that all that could be seen would be the LORD God! If it were put over your life, would Jesus Christ be seen? "My Daily Bible Blessin" by YSW
