Davis Famly members - Historian Kevin Ladd was on the partyline program this morning on KSHN talking about the Clark Community especially in the 1800s. He mentioned my great grandfather Darby Davis. Darby was a former slave turned school teacher. He is buried on the same land that was the plantation he was raised on. His father Frank Davis was a slave that came to Texas from Florida. Darby Davis took books everywhere he went and wanted every child to read. Ive spoken to folks that were those same children that Darby gave books to read. Can you imagine? Here is a former slave emphasizing education. We cant forget where we come from. This man owned 100 acres in the Trinity River Bottom, 100 acres in the Clark area and 13 acres in Dolen. He also owned land in Anahuac. This man lead the way for our family. Let us continue his dream. Darby Davis 1855-1939
