Day -9: So much for a day of rest... We were super busy today! Today was Maggies 3rd birthday, so I had to see her. My mom came to the hospital to sit with Ryan during his morning nap while I went home to snuggle with my three year old. Mr. Ryan didnt like that I was gone and fussed a bit for my mom, but overall, he spent the morning relaxing and sleeping. Maggie, Brendan, Bret, and I spent the morning building a teepee (a Christmas gift from Aunt Laura), playing My Little Pony, having lunch, and opening a few birthday gifts. My time with Brendan, Maggie, and Bret is always way too short, but it is time very well spent. After I returned to the hospital, Ryan received a new preventative medication that will (hopefully) help protect against pneumonia. The medicine had to be given over the span of 2 hours, and the nurse had to check his vitals every 15 minutes during that time. It was quite exhausting keeping Ryan calm and happy for the two hours (the one thing that made him happy was playing with all the wires - see attached picture). He was hooked up to the monitors to watch his heart rate and oxygen levels, they took his temperature to make sure he wasnt spiking a fever, and (his least favorite thing) they took his blood pressure. He finally fell asleep for a few minutes at the tail end of the 2 hours, but then woke up again in time for me to give his oral medications. I seriously feel like he is taking a medication every minute of the day. I hate it :( Tomorrow is the first day of his next chemotherapy drug, Fludarabine. This drug will help to stop Ryans current cells from dividing and will help to eventually kill off the cells. Some of the side effects include nausea and vomiting, so I am preparing for Ryan to not feel very well later in the week. On top of all the medication that is being pumped into little Ryans body and the side effects that come with it, Mr. Ryan is also cutting two teeth. But in all seriousness, you would never even know what he is going through. My little man spends every day so happy. He isnt affected by cutting two teeth at the same time. He isnt the least bit affected by his new surroundings .Most of all, he isnt affected by a ton of medicines being put into his little body. He is so strong, and he reminds me of that each and every day that passes. Please continue to pray for Ryans strength and for my strength. Thank you again for all of the love and support. :)
