Day 10: Yesterday my dad and I double-teamed over a huge stir fry pan to fry a billion pakoras for iftar. I would scoop the batter out into the oil and he would perfect them to crispy golden brown crunchiness. We worked on an outside stove close to the ground and I had a chair but he insisted on sitting on the ground. Every time he changed his position and I looked at him like I-know-you-want-to-sit-in-this-chair, hed wave me off in his macho father way and be like No, no beta - Im fine. And on the other hand, my mom will spend her whole day with me in our car (without AC) forgoing the comfort of home just so she can be with me to prepare for my way to Lubbock. She has about a million other things to do but shell specifically remind me god knows how many times about things I forget...again. and again. and again. These acts arent out of the ordinary but my parents & I have started treasuring our time with each other especially since my time in Houston is cutting it close. Even if its something small like getting in the car with them to go out on an errand for no reason, or just random loving words when were kicking it at home. I remember Sarah Zeidat reminding me that we get so busy growing up, we forget that our parents getting old. Oh Allah, have mercy upon them as they had mercy upon me when I was small. The Prophet (pbuh) said: “The pious offspring who casts a single look of affection at his parents receives a reward from Allah equal to the reward of an accepted Hajj.” The people enquired: “O Prophet of Allah (pbuh), if someone casts a hundred such glances of love and affection at his parents, what then?” The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Yes, indeed, even if one does so a hundred times a day, he will get a hundred fold reward.
