Day 100(ish) selling what Im growing. At this point 90% of what Im selling has been grown by me and my interns. It feels great but the truth is in a month Ill be planning our cool weather crops. In the meantime were a month ahead of last year in our tomato production. Weve been selling bell peppers too, also ahead of schedule. There are a dozen or so corn silks growing where I planted a three sisters arrangement. Ive spotted a few melons on my evening rounds as well. As a new farmer, for better or worse, I havent had much time to sit and think about what Im even doing. Im running on instinct predominantly. Im leaning on the decade worth of growing experience Ive attained on my own and utilizing the same principles I would in my back yard garden only now it spans about two acres. Each night I stagger into the house, tired in every bone but feeling fulfilled every day. The days are long here and there is still never enough time to do everything I want to but thats OK. What is getting accomplished is a solid foundation to continue our CSA and keep our community eating delicious, healthy whole foods. I may even take a half day tomorrow. Been awhile since Ive had a day off and it just may be in the cards to enjoy some family time. After all, thats the cornerstone of this decision; family first. Until next time...
