Day 114 Today has been a truly awesome, emotional, amazing day. It has always been a special day for me because it is my Pops birthday, and we were very close before he passed away. Now its an extra special day being the day that we finally bring our little miracle home. A day that for a long time didnt seem likely or even possible. It was brilliant to wake up knowing that was the last night we would be sleeping at the hospital. I spent the morning and early afternoon preparing for our departure. Jack had a 30 minute car seat test, where he was monitored to see if he had any desats while sitting in that position. The oxygen man came to speak to me about the details of managing Jack on oxygen and we went over connecting it all up again. He has given us a back pack so we can carry the (very large and heavy) tank around if we go out. Otherwise it is on a little stand on wheels. He gave us a spare portable tank and explained that a large tank will be delivered to our home later today. The doctor gave Jack a final check over and wrote a prescription for his iron and vitadol and his final discharge notes. I decided to watch the CPR dvd again, I figured a final check cant hurt. Jacks measurements were taken. Today Jack is 47cm long and his weight is 3170 grams. Unfortunately that is a 5 gram loss so Im going to need to make sure Jack is feeding regularly to increase his weight. The nurse collected, went though and packed for me, all the equipment I would need at home. Oxygen tubing, syringes, tape for tubing, other tape for the tubing on Jacks face, the list went on. We went over time frames for future appointments for eye checks, hernia check, hearing check, immunisations and seeing the paediatrian. Also there will be frequent home visits by the home care team while Jack is on oxygen. The first visit by the home care team will be tomorrow. Finally by mid afternoon Marty arrived, we tucked Jack up in his new capsual and we were good to go. It was a bit of a mission. We needed to wheel Jacks oxygen tank close to him and then in the car Marty had to figure out how to secure the tank (and the spare) in the car. We were warned how dangerous and hazardous this could be if we were in an accident. It was very awkward and will need some further consideration before we go out in the car again. On our arrival home we were greeted by balloons and decorations and Mum and Dad inside waiting to surprise us. It was such an amazing feeling not only finally being home for good but to also to be bringing our baby home. We moved into our beautiful home last year after having it designed and built with the hope of having children one day. That day had finally arrived. Within half an hour of our arrival our living areas were a complete mess. But we managed to get Jack fed and tucked up for a sleep. I am a bit worried about the cradle still having a faint smell of vanish so we put Jack into a portable cot. We have decided we need to bring his change table, nappies, cloths etc out into our lounge as it is a little awkward managing the oxygen while moving Jack though the house. Tomorrow I will get out the extension tubing and hopefully that will help with managing moving Jack around the house. It feels wonderful to be home and to have Jack here with us. I feel quite relaxed about him being here but every now and again I find myself staring at his chest just to double check he is okay. Tonight Marty and I have had a bit of a tidy up and thankfully Mum and Dad delivered us dinner. I am really looking forward to spending some time tomorrow sorting out Jacks things and finding his clothes in the muddle. I also cant wait for Jack to have some awake time where we can have a play that doesnt involve a hospital cot or hospital bed. Oh and also I will have to make time to catch up on this weeks Shortland Street on demand, and try to figure out whats happened in the last four months!! Tomorrow is Martys last day of work for the year. He had to book his holidays months ago without knowing when we would be home. So its worked out very well only being one day out!! I was so determined Jack would be home for his due date!! So tomorrow Jack and I will be hanging out at home together, such an exciting prospect. Im loving being back on the wifi and computer. I cant believe how much quicker it is to type on a computer than it is on my phone!
