Day 17 The sun was back in full heat today. If there was flash - TopicsExpress

Day 17 The sun was back in full heat today. If there was flash flooding overnight, you could not tell this morning. American media seems to make everything bigger than it actually is. It was time to get our walk on and see Obama’s house. The trek took about 40mins from the top of Capitol Hill. You can tell you are getting close because the presence of the United States Secret Service ramps up. I was surprised not many people were around. It meant you got a decent view and could take some good photos. The house it self was about 300 meters away. It does look beautiful almost magical and with only a fence in the way a little under protected, especially when you only see about 4 – 6 cops looking over the crowd. Martin Luther King Jr’s is the latest monument here. It has that brand new car feel and look to it, as you pass through its entrance. Probably because its so new the whole place seems so clean and shiny, it’s like someone has coated it in coconut oil. His statue is definitely more modern than Lincolns, and does not seem to fit in with the whole greek inspired design the other monuments follow. It is impressive and distinct just not as regal or elegant as the other president statues. Que all the ‘it’s because he’s black jokes’. All of the monuments here are epic, huge over the top masterpieces of amazement. I think Jefferson’s monument is one of the better ones. It’s not as busy as Lincoln’s, but more impressive if you ask me. Jefferson stands proud in the centre of his white marble temple looking across the tidal basin. Because there are no walls just giant columns, a cool breeze circulates through the entire monument. You sit down and chill out taking in its awesomeness. Time to go and watch the NBA finals.
