Day 2 - Tornado Watch vs. Tornado Warning and how we monitor the potential threats. A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes. A tornado watch therefore implies that it is also a severe thunderstorm watch. vs A tornado warning means a tornado has been indicated on radar, or there is a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. Warnings do not indicate that property or structures have been damaged. We monitor all warnings but pay particular attention to those with language about tornado on ground or funnel cloud spotted. We then use other resources (e.g., news, Facebook, Twitter) to gather more information.
