Day 2 of the October Film Challenge 2. The Most Realistic - TopicsExpress

Day 2 of the October Film Challenge 2. The Most Realistic Performance Youve Ever Seen - Harold Russell in The Best Years of Our Lives Realistic is subjective, but I will put it in context of someone who really nails a performance like its a part of their being and feels like someone you may know. Since Livia Peterson already took Boyhood, I want to highlight Harold Russell from the classic The Best Years of Our Lives. Even though this is still in that Hollywood theatrical era, this performance hit me so hard even before I realized that there were no prosthetics used. Russell was a veteran who actually lost his hands during WWII and this may as well have been his life story. Because of this, his performance feels all the more raw and honest in a way that would have felt fake with someone else. Its a rare opportunity to showcase a terrific performance from an actor who doesnt have to be perfect physically to have us believe him. There arent a lot of clips available of his best scenes, but heres a little one from the re-release they did. Seriously, give this movie a watch if just to watch him. Youll never feel like he is acting no matter how staged it looks. https://youtube/watch?v=t-VB9JnppAU
