Day 2 on the Southern Ride and for the group that is chasing the blue group down the coast we covered a 122km today of beautiful scenery as we rode with the beach by our left hand side for almost all of the day. Our team Captain on the road was a great friend and long term supporter of Hands, Trevor Osborn. Fewer nicer people to pull on a Hands jersey exist, but that counts for very little when you lose 10 or your group within the first 12k. Heading out of Hua Hin there was plenty of traffic to navigate and the change of traffic lights saw a fifth of the group stranded on one side as their fellow riders disappeared into the distance then making a series of left and right turns. The group was soon back together and south we headed clocking up 90km by lunch where one of the best Pad Thais on tour was served with the group then soaking their legs in the pool providing relief from the sun. It was the warmest day on tour and it was for a good number of the group the first time they had passed the 100k mark in a day. There was plenty of wind and we had a few chances or riding straight into it. The group is riding very strong and Mae Thiew has brought her riding legs with her from Yasothon. She is supported by the riders ensuring she is never alone on the roads. When I say the group is riding strong, I should have said, most. Paul Williamson one the 1600km riders, also riding with his son Tom, performed a well known move at the last water stop of the day A Marshall. Arriving into the water stop arms raised in celebration and right foot unclipped all was going great, except he usually puts his left foot down first. Crashing to the ground saw a billow of dust fill the air around. The laughter could be heard in the next province. Oh Willo, such a shame. Till tomorrow.
