Day 20 - An opera finale you witnessed or heard that got you on your feet. - Several posters have offered their notions of what constitutes operatic perfection, all quite persuasive. But for me, there can be only one answer: the entire first act of Turandot. Hearing it is such bliss, I dont even care if we never get to the point where T. herself finally opens her mouth. I first heard it in this recording, under the magisterial baton of Zubin Mehta, and to my mind (and ears and heart), it has never been topped.
