Day 20: Hebron & the Bedouins - visited a 1/2 mosque 1/2 synagogue in Hebron where Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Isaac, Rebecca, & Leah a were all buried - that must have been quite an archeological find. Intense security there bc of someone who invaded the mosque yrs ago and killed like 70ppl - visited a local glass blowing shop that was making beautiful Hebron glass - another, yet very different Bedouin visit for lunch. Drove out through the Judean Desert to a Bedouin family dwelling area. These were definitely tent dwelling, goat & camel herding Bedouins. This man had 2 wives and alone just w 1 had 13 children. Men lived in different tents than the women - who were mostly kept in hiding. He was very surprised to hear that we could speak openly for or against our president, as you would never do that here. - sat on the ground & had a lovely visit & lunch in one of the tents. A bunch of the sons (from the 1 wife he talked about) came to sit and listen, but we never really saw the women or the other family - then we went and visited with an Israeli American who has lived the last 30yrs in a Settlement Efrat in the West Bank. Heard about some of the struggles & also their relationship with the neighboring Palestinian village - they can still come & go into their town and have helped the P to get running water & electricity, ect. They are not completely for the wall. - stopped by the biggest cisterns Ive seen- built by Suliman - stayed in this fancy hotel- though Im finding I like the little boutiques where its easier to visit w the people better
