Day 24-Power of Intercession “… The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5: 16 In 2 Kings 4 we read the story of the Shumanmite woman. She heard that Elisha was in town and she sent word for him to come to her house for a meal. From then on when Elisha was in her town he would stop by her home for a meal and stay as their guest. One day while visiting, Elisha asked if there was anything he could do for her. She insisted she had all she needed. Gehazi, his servant, told Elisha that she did not have a son. Elisha told her that this time next year she would have a son. The next year she gave birth to a son. The boy grew up and was out in the fields with his father when he became very sick. They took him into the house and laid him on the bed Elisha slept on when he visited their home, and there the boy died. The Shumanmite woman left immediately to find Elisha. The Bible says she went to Mount Carmel and when Elisha saw her he sent his servant to see if everything was alright. She told him the boy had died.
