Day 24 and 25: Arapahoe to Fairbury, NE and Fairbury to Lawrence, KS These last two days have been hard because my hip has been a huge pain, Ill just share a quick summary with you here. Somehow I managed to run 6 out of my 9 miles on Tuesday (the other 3 will be made up once Im feeling better), but I didnt really have much of a choice because after wed run our first 3 miles out and were waiting for the pickup van we found out that the van had gotten stuck in the mud and we would have to run back and help push it out. It was really hard running in the mud because it stuck like quick sand and built up to a coating over an inch deep and heaaavy within a few steps. Everyone was mud covered and smelled like poop by the time we arrived to the host for that evening in Fairbury, an interesting first impression for the pastor who met us there Im sure. Yesterday we ran 12 miles each across the state line into Kansas. I was able to run all of my miles and was feeling great by the time the day ended, but this morning I am once again limping around. It probably didnt help that we had at least 9 miles of hills yesterday (and somehow much more up than down) but at the time I was feeling pretty good and my running partner Alison and I didnt have to walk any of them! My dedications for the last 2 days go to Scott and all of the other doctors and nurses who took care of me when I was sick- far too many to write them all on my calf, and to Ethan, a brave little boy whos mother is a good friend of my mom and who is a camper at Camp Good Days where I worked last summer. Ethan is having high risk brain surgery this morning and could use as much positive healing energy as he can get! There are a lot of scary risks involved due to the location of the tumor, and Ethan and his family have already been through so much =( If youd like to follow his caringbridge, you can check out his journal here: caringbridge.org/visit/ethanrivard/journal
