Day 28: There are some people that you meet that you just can’t help but like. You know the type… they are friends waiting to happen. Scott McAllister is that kind of guy! From the minute we struck up a conversation I could tell right away that it wouldn’t be the last time we talked. A few months later, he was part of our band, playing gigs and writing songs - he was energetic, fun and charismatic… and he made us better by simply being in the room. Now, Scott was also a little scattered and had things he wrestled with, but it somehow never really mattered… because he never tried to hide who he was and always was thinking of others more than himself. What always struck me about Scott was his ability to be completely transparent, even with pain, but still have a sincere smile on his face. I think he had found a way to find peace in the honesty and to see hope even in the distance. I have always appreciated that about him and have challenged myself over the years to strive for that same type of transparency. A couple of years ago, our smoke alarms started going off and, even after replacing the batteries, would chirp and sound to the point we had to leave the house. Just to be sure, we called the fire department… and when they arrived, Scott jumped out of one of the vehicles. Right away, I was instantly relaxed knowing I had a friend that was here to help… and he didn’t even laugh at me when he solved the problem by simply pushing the “reset” button (well,… he didn’t laugh much…). #40friends40days
