Day 3: Foo Fighters Something From Nothing I choose this song because IM GOING TO SEE FOO FIGHTERS IN SUNDERLAND IN MAY! Seeing this band has so many memories attached to it, such as flying to London and staying at the scariest hotel known to mankind, it advertised that you get Hot Running Water. We also had no private toilet and breakfast was thrown into our room at 7am by a grumpy old woman who was offended when we didnt eat any of it. Did I mention the bedding had cigarette burns so I slept in clothes, on top of the duvet with a hoody as a pillow?! Then we went and watched the Foo Fighters perform a 3 hour 15 minute set, which was supported by Biffy Clyro and Jimmy Eat World. So we couldnt complain about our night in sister hotel, Hotel Vegas. (We did get a refund for night one due to our email of complaint, with attached photographic evidence of the fire exit blocked by ladders and chairs.) Then the follow week see them a little closer to home in Perth for TITP. Road Trip Number 2 Leeds Festival, a drive which should have taken us around 4 hours hit the 6 hour mark, we found Jedwardburgh, but lost the angel of the north. We paid £5 for 5 minutes in a fancy multistory carpark because we drove into the wrong one, and stayed in the gayest area of Leeds. We were even woken up by The Real Take That. Being the Scottish people that we are, we were the only ones drinking on the bus out to the festival, and Lee was so happy to wear her Im over 18 wristband. We ate the biggest chip buttie you could imagine, and discovered The Black Keys. All before being front row to The Foo Fighters where Lee nearly died as Dave came within 10 feet of her. To end it all not believing I could direct her back to Fife (even though I had directed us to Leeds), we take a detour to the west and Manchester to begin our journey back home. I wonder what Road Trip 3 will have in store?! Also if you havent watched Sonic Highways, I highly recommend it. One of the best TV Shows on at the moment, especially if you love music in any way. Thats why I choose this specific song, as it was really inspiring to learn and see how the band worked to create a song based on the history and influence of the city they were recording in. And its really fun ti play on guitar!
