Day 4 - Advent Morning Minute VERSE: Luke 2:11-14 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” KEY THOUGHT: So who’s already worn out from the shopping, decorating, traffic, parties and non-stop commercials imploring you to buy this car, this diamond, or this toy for Christmas? Don’t get me wrong…I’m not a Grinch or an Ebenezzer Scrooge but it’s so easy to get lost in all that our culture has made of Christmas. The commercialization and pursuit of profit has taken this amazing story hostage. It’s time to free Christmas! Although it may sound cliché, Jesus is the reason for this season! There would be no Christmas if it were not for Christ. And while we may not be able to change what the world has reduced Christmas too…we CAN make sure our heart is right as we move toward this sacred day. We CAN make sure we don’t loose sight of Jesus. We CAN make sure our families focus less on what we want and more on what we can give. Take a moment today to slow down during this crazy, hectic and frenzied season and remind yourself what Christmas is all about. Strip away all the presents and lights and trees and focus on the baby Jesus. God’s perfect plan to save you. PRAYER: Dear God, help me to keep your Son the center of my life. Don’t let me place anyone or anything else in that spot. And as I move through this season of stress and craziness let me not loose sight of Jesus. Let me not loose sight of that quiet night, in that quiet village, in that quiet barn where You burst forth into this world.
