Day 4 (a TLDR) The harsh reality of poker. In a field of 7000 - TopicsExpress

Day 4 (a TLDR) The harsh reality of poker. In a field of 7000 players the odds of you coming first and banking a cool 10,000,000 USD is somewhere in the vicinity of 0.025% chance. Today (truth be told) I could have folded every single hand and made day two. The price of the blinds would have dinted my stack though. If I had folded every hand Id have around 15,000 chips from a starting 30,000. This is why tournament poker is a difficult game to grasp, you must play hands to survive the ever growing blinds. We began the day at 50 for the sb and 100 for the big blind. For those who arent sure blinds are a forced bet you must place before the cards are dealt. Towards the end stages of the tournament the blinds during the last one or two days of the tournament will be greater then the original starting stacks of 30,000. They will be around 50,000 for the sb and 100,000 for the big blind. You will see raises placed at 200,000. Some may have noticed my stack fluctuating up and down over the 12 hours of play. That was my attempt to gather chips. I took risks at bluffing and getting better hands than my own to fold, I made hands strong enough to value bet against other players hoping they would call with worse hands, all this trying to gain a large stack as the tourney clock winds down & blinds increase. My expectation for day two (which will be played on Australias Thursday) is to risk my tournament life and go for broke (hopefully with really strong hands like pocket aces or AK). Why take a risk, you may ask. Well to progress deeper in this tournament I need a larger stack than the 31,150 I have now. I need to get my 31,150 in the middle against an opponents hand and hope to win it and double to 60k+, then continue to grow it further. I expect a lot of us in Team WSOP gold will bust out on the second day or early third day trying to grow our stacks from where they currently sit. As most of you already know, I was lucky enough to sit at the feature table with former Champion Joe Cada. It was an amazing experience, well after the nerves settled. 2 million hands Ive played of poker helped me work through difficult situations at the table. Unfortunately the table was pretty reg filled (players who understand the concept of poker- better then average players) so getting chips was difficult. Im glad I managed to add 1,150 chips to my starting stack. Definitely a once in a life time opportunity for me today. I also met an internet and live poker phenom today, which I doubt most of you wouldnt know of, nicknamed Baluga whale and has a baluga whale theorem named after him (**caution poker speak - According the the BalugaWhale theorem, we should strongly reconsider the strength of our pair due to this turn raise, and we should be looking to fold the majority of the time in this spot.) his real name is Andrew Brokos, an inspiration and highlight of my day. If i had to choose between meeting Andrew or Phil Ivey Id have to choose Andrew. I met a few pros, Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Joe Cada as you already know and seen Daniel Negreanu. I heard Phil Hellmuth was around, though didnt catch sight of the man. Well thats the TLDR for you all, its 5.30am and I need a sleep. Ill keep you all informed and inbox me for any poker related questions. Thanks again family and friends for all the support. #wavingCoonabarabransflag (come up with the best idea what the coona flag might look like and Ill send you $10 USD in one dollar bills 100% serious)
