Day 4 of Sophie’s Vacation Dear Mom ( Tricia Reilly ) It never - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of Sophie’s Vacation Dear Mom ( Tricia Reilly ) It never gets boring around here. I got past the guard when he opened the basement door and scooted down the stairs again today. Rossi dashed down right behind me to make sure I was not snooping... I guess… The guard called me and told me to come upstairs. Not wanting to irritate him I hurried back up the steps. Tino met me on the landing and Rossi was behind me. They are very observant. I don’t think I can do much without one of them knowing about it. Early this morning, early as in before the sun was up, I met a very nice horse at the barn along with a grumpy one. This nice gray filly came over and was very interested in me. She looked, and sniffed me...then look me over some more. I looked back at her too. She was very big. I also noticed that she does not have paws and her feet look very hard. Tino and Rossi were at least 10 yards. Both of them warned be about her feet. Note to self, watch out for the horses hooves. It was really chilly and standing under her nose I was really warm. She is very friendly...Then this golden brown fellow with a white mane and tail heads toward us.... Tino said to get behind the head counselor quick, as he scurried past me on his way to the tack room... Whatever that is! Anyway this fellow “Lucky” had his ears pinned back and did not appear to be in a friendly mood... I quickly followed Tinos advice. Luckys grumpy mood did not change much even after he got his morning grain... I think he felt I was going to eat his breakfast! Speaking of breakfast, in addition to the regular food here, the cook had a new menu item; French Toast with Bacon and real NY State Maple Syrup.... How come I dont recall you fixing me French Toast and Maple Syrup? Anyhow, It was really tasty, but I had to eat it fast as Rossi had gulped his down and was headed for my dish. I’ll probably have indigestion. What is with these two Westies, you would think they never get fed. Which is hardly the case, judging by the size of them. I got to stay out of the crate today… It is really nice being able to walk about in the kitchen and lay in front of the sliding glass doors. Lots of sunshine today too! There seems to be some interest by a very large red headed bird Rossi said it was called a Pileated Woodpecker (he is such a know it all) in one of the huge White Pine trees behind the house. The racket it was making It woke me up from my nap, there were pieces of pine flying all over the ground and the pounding noise sounded like one of those thingies that breaks up concrete. Well, Tino and Rossi said to pay it no mind. I’m concerned some owl or an animal might make a home in the big hole that is there and take me prisoner… Should I be concerned? I’ll tell your dad when he gets home…. I got to go back to the barn tonight…. The mud was not as bad, and the snow continues to melt. I spied a cat at the barn before Tino and Rossi… of course when they spotted it you can’t imagine how fast Tino can run on three legs… The cat was gone and well hidden by the time your father and I got to the barn door. T&R literally squeezed through the barn door as it was being opened looking for the cat…. I wonder, maybe it was a skunk…. That would be one sure way I’d get to sleep in the bedroom and they would be in the basement…. I know, I’m on vacation and should not be thinking evil thoughts… I heard that Tino and Rossi saw a porcupine while walking through the woods last year and that the critter just watched them from the tree it was in…. I guess that having your Dad along is always a good thing in the woods… How big is this place anyway? Well thats all at the moment. Love, Sophie
