Day 40 (29 weeks) If only Id made it to today to have Jack. What a difference it would have made to him. I woke up feeling terrible this morning with a headache, feeling of razor blades in my throat and all blocked up. I had to stay in bed and obviously couldnt see Jack at all Mum and dad went and saw him before they left on the ferry this morning. They said he was looking very calm and settled. Luckily I have been in phone contact with Jacks nurses numerous times today so they have updated me on whats been happening. Jack was feed three lots of one ml during the night but this morning had more greenie bile (3mls) so one feed was withheld. This afternoon he has tolerated two more 1 ml feeds. Jacks albumin (a blood product) level was low so he had another IV line inserted in his arm for a transfusion of albumin. The lump on Jacks arm where the pus was is still looking big and hard so the doctors will consider doing an ultra sound tomorrow. This will show if there is more pus deeper in his hand. Tomorrow they are also going to try Jack on CPAP. (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure - A continuous amount of air used to keep the air sacs in a babys lungs open to prevent them from collapsing - usually delivered through prongs in their nose). He is currently on SIPAP. I believe the main difference is that SIPAP breathes for the baby so helps if they forget to breath or get tired. The CPAP means the baby is breathing themselves (I think). It would be so amazing if Jack could cope with CPAP for an extended period of time. Firstly because the CPAP masks/prongs put less pressure on his poor little face and secondly it means he is really making progress with his breathing. I really hope my day in bed has been worthwhile and I wake up feeling much better tomorrow. I am so grateful to have Ronald McDonald House to stay but I really miss everything about home so much and hate having to be in Wellington like this. My mission tomorrow is to find someone to retrieve all my photos on my computer. Also Roselyn arrives tomorrow. I cant wait to catch up with her and for her to finally meet baby Jack.
