Day 5… It seems like when Ive just been working away for a long time, I get surprises. Often then, when the Narrative begins to emerge in my work, I feel like I dont know whos coming into my studio. All I can do is welcome them in. Todays post... 1 & 2 are italian inspired. The first, a tile wall hanging, Is La Donna delli Ucelli (the Woman of the birds). The second, Crow Girl reminds me of a Della Robia I saw once, and of one of my Community College Students. I am planning on leading a Ceramic workshop in Italy this Spring… at LaMeridiana Ceramic Center in Tuscany The focus of this workshop is about the Narrative in each of us. Im looking for 1 or 2 more participants. Teaching a Tile workshop at Donkey Mill Art Center in Hawaii, I found I was unable to paint or draw anything on paper there. I was so astonished when an image of Pele somehow materialized on one of my demonstrations. Narrative work is so surprising to me…and so mysterious and so welcome. I invite Isabella Fasso of Florence, Italy to post 3 images of her work a day for 5 days and I invite Linda Strong, old friend of New Mexico to do the same.
