Day 6 - DS Awareness - Many people with DS have or develop issues with their metabolisms. Now I am not talking about those that are affected by celiac, or IBS, just plain ole metabolism.....like it just slows down to an almost crawl. You can only imagine what havoc this reeks on the body, yet our kids persevere (as you will continue to see as a common denominator in many of their life stories). Jordans metabolism has significantly slowed down in the form of her gaining weight, slowing down, etc. So we enroll her in this study for kids with developmental disabilities that measures food intake, with exercise, complete with goals, benchmarks, etc. etc. We attend every week and Jordan has lost about 5 pounds so far. So she goes out with some friends this past week and when she comes home I said did you eat anything?. She thinks and responds, yes, it was NOT healthy. I laugh and say it wasnt? No (and she gets this dreamy look on her face) and says but it was GOOD, I like the no healthy. I said Jordan, healthy food is better for you, you have to try and eat healthy even when you go out. She looks at me like I grew an additional head and says (firmly) NO MAMA, GO OUT EAT GOOD FOOD, your food is healthy. What does one say to that? I got nothing.
