Day +6: Merry Christmas! Our morning started about 7:30 when boyfriend arrived bearing gifts. Santa had also crept in sometime during the night and left a huge bag of perfect Brock gifts under our little tree. Brock came away with an iPod, a football, a ski cap, cool socks, more Legos than we could count, and an awesome fishing pole for catching sharks next summer, when hes all better and the hospital is a fading memory. Dr. Haight made rounds this again this morning. She is still pleased with Brocks progress. Potassium was a somewhat improved. She even said that there is a possibility Brock could keep cruising on like this. I couldnt ask for anything better. Brock has put a little weight back on, too, thanks to the feeding tube and a returning, albeit small, appetite. Today, we ordered up his steak and some boiled shrimp. He didnt eat much, but it was something, along with more Dr. Pepper. One issue that may be on the horizon is Brocks blood pressure. All day today, its been slightly above where theyd like it to be. Hes gotten a dose of medicine for it once. The night nurse is trying to avoid another now, letting him chill before she takes his BP a third time. To be fair, it IS Christmas, and all kids are excited. But, when Brock first started cyclosporine 3 years ago, we had to make some adjustments to avoid elevated blood pressure. He never needed meds, but the dosage is different now. He receives it IV all day, everyday, not just once every 12 hours. Brocks white count is down to zero. He has no immunity left. When it becomes detectable again, we will rejoice because it will mean his new marrow has engrafted. His mouth is still thankfully free of sores, and hes not experiencing any pain from the NG tube anymore. He still hates it, but hes becoming accustomed to it. Thanks for you all thoughts and prayers and well-wishes today! Until next time....
