Day 67 of ES HE GAINED WEIGHT! HE GAINED WEIGHT! HE GAINED WEIGHT! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! Monday morning meetings with Dr. Pope start with checking temperature, weight, blood pressure, and height. The last two weeks Elijah has maintained his weight at 64.8 lbs. However, his sore throat and lack of taste have limited his mouth eating tremendously. Dr. Popes number one goal is his nutrition and getting him ready for surgery. We increased his tube feeds last week to include an overnight one. We were hoping and praying to hit 65 lbs today...HE HIT 65.4!!!!! I know, I know...its only half a pound, but gaining weight during this time is extremely hard to do so WE ARE THRILLED! I never knew we had a mini-Superman among us, did you?!?!?! Labs look fantastic as does his neck! The skin is still rough and cracked, but is healing beautifully and right on schedule! Dr. Pope attributes the healing to the creams AND the nutrition hes getting through his tube feeds. Her words: Good nutrition=good healing. As she checked his neck she commented, His neck is so small. YES! Thats exactly what we want to hear. Compared to the size it was almost 10 weeks ago, its like a completely different person. Dr. Pope continues to be ecstatic with Dr. Crimaldis work. (Yes Dr. Crimaldi is THAT good. ;) ) The dietician and Dr. Pope agree that some of the side effects (loss of taste, sore throat, laryngitis) will start to recede in the next couple of weeks. He remains a trooper and hasnt given up on trying to taste different foods. He keeps the same attitude of it doesnt hurt to try! Dr. Pope has spoken with Dr. Patt, the surgeon, and knows exactly what scans Elijah will need (an MRI and CT scans). She has called those in and will have a date for us soon. It will be approximately three weeks from now. Then...surgery. But, were going to stay right here in this Superman moment before getting ahead of ourselves and thinking about surgery! Today is Gigis birthday and Elijah picked Tsunami (Japanese Hibachi Grill) for dinner. Hes been trying to get there for a few days and finally had the best reason to make it happen tonight. Im not sure how Gigi was even able to eat, though, because Elijah was tucked under her arm for most of the night-oh how those boys love their Gigi! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIGI! WE LOVE YOU!! Sam started a flag football/day camp today at the YMCA. He had a GREAT time (and was completely pooped)! I was afraid he might fall asleep at dinner! We are thrilled Sam is able to do something for him this week! Part of the day was spent swimming but Sam didnt want to tell Elijah because he didnt want to make him sad since he cant swim right now due to his neck. Sweet, sweet Sam!
