Day 7, 606 Km in 7:15 hours The plan was to take the truck route to cross the Mexican border; well we know what happens to plans, we ended up going through the town of Nogales. The border crossing was a breeze but getting through town was a challenge since I didn’t have a clue where I was going, it was rush hour and signage could have been better. Still only one spot where I got a little excited and Clare had to cool me down, she’s good at that and I’ve got the bruises to prove it. Made “Check Point Charlie” as it is affectionately known and breezed through there, last year there was quite a line up but this year there was only one couple in front of us. Part way through the drive I found myself getting to the point of nodding off so Clare took over for awhile. The Mexican’s have been doing a lot of road work last year and this year but the part Clare dove was the worst stretch full of car eating manholes, I don’t think she enjoyed driving because when I said I could take over again she pulled over almost immediately. We tried to book into the Best Western at Navojoa but they said they were full unless we wanted the Presidential Suite at $350 for the night. That didn’t happen! We ended up next door at the Fiesta, the room is nice but we’ve noticed that there are a lot of very small ants in Mexico and it appears they are around the bathroom sink and on the toilet paper. Next time we travel with ant killer! Tomorrow we will make for Tepic about an 8 ½ hour drive; this will leave us with a 2 hour drive the next day.
