Day 7: Huánuco - Tingo Maria 120km We got off to a late start once again, the Gringo Alliance were not known for our love of early starts! We liked to party at night too much! Pumped and primed for our ride towards the amazon we set off in high spirits once again. We stopped along the way for a break and when we took off again, Perilous Piranahs bike was up in smoke and almost caught fire. A melted ignition unit behind the headlight! The wires were in too bad a state to repair and it appeared the ignition unit had suffered internal damage. I was going to re-wire it, but it was too far gone for repair. The boys headed up the road to a nearby town but no luck on an ignition module, so we simply removed it and started her up! I thought we may have to do some hot wiring to get the bike to go, but it was a simple case of removing it and kick starting her or shorting out the starter solenoid for electric start! They were back in action within the hour, although had no electrics for lights horn etc, but at least they could forge on ahead and ride the bike. Shortly after repairing the bike we came to a long dark tunnel, which was interesting for the boys with no headlights! Hell it was scary enough for those of with lights! We whooped and hollered our way through the tunnel like a bunch of raving lunatics! Man that was fun! Horns blaring voices yelling just having a rollicking good time! We stopped for a break beside a river and what an absolute change in scenery from one side of the mountain to the other! We were entering jungle territory and it was stunning! Butterflies of all shapes and colours abounded! I wish we had taken notes along the way as we saw so much that it all blends in together when trying to recall events as they happened. Half way up the hill we stopped for a break and laid on the road being ridiculous again, waiting for the others to catch up! had a great laugh and got a great photo of it! We were determined to find Tia Maria in Tingo Maria, but alas not a drop could be found, so Pisco sours and beer again! and I think maybe Chicken for dinner?
