Day 7 – Tuesday Our hardy PLs and APLs survived the night and returned back to the main site before breakfast – A well earned Expedition Challenge badge heading their way. As rain is forecast for tomorrow, we decided to take down many of the tents today and pack away a lot of the equipment. 15 boys in one tent tonight – what could possibly go wrong? At 11am we went into our last set of rifle / climbing and zip wire groups. The Scouts weren’t happy that I was just there to watch so started to bully me to get my harness on and give the zip wire a go. My protests fell on deaf ears so up I went and down the other side…..woo hoo. After lunch, we headed to Hardwick park for an afternoon at ringos. These are giant rubber rings dragged around by a speed boat. The scouts got into groups of 4 and along with a leader as photographer in the boat, we set off. The Scouts had an AMAZING time with several trips around the lake. We even managed to get some of the leaders in too. Once again, I was pushed by the Scouts to give it a go, so off we went. As we approached the end of our second lap with sea sickness starting to set in, the boat started spluttering – out of gas! Back to shore, more fuel was added, and the driver insisted that he give us two more laps……….terrific… Back on site, we took down a couple more tents in preparation for tomorrow’s rain. Shepherd’s pie for dinner….YUM and a general clean-up of our site followed. As I write this, the inter-patrol competition is VERY close. Just 9.5 points separate the winning and losing patrols. This is all the incentive the patrols need as bonus points for extra volunteering are now there for the taking. All jobs will earn points – this will help us enormously tomorrow! The explorers and Scouts are now gathering wood for our final campfire. The final badges will be handed out and we’ll have a chat about highs and lows of camp. The Scouts and Guides have really got on so well at this camp and the 36 children have been a real pleasure to look after. We’ll be sad (but not devastated) to be handing back some very tired (and smelly) children tomorrow afternoon. Hope you’ve enjoyed the nightly blog……Roll on Winter Camp, February 2015. Enjoy the rest of your Summer Stephen
